Janice Meyer Kirkpatrick

The Artist

Hello and welcome to my website! My bio is below for a more detailed description of my journey thus far.

I have had group and solo exhibitions around the SF Bay Area for over 30 years.  My exhibition resumé is available upon request. I express my creativity through many mediums including Painting, Drawing, Sculpture, Writing, Poetry and Photography.

My 3D painting series called "BUILDINGS", utilizing found objects and product packaging, is still in process.  I have completed over 15 works to date.  This series is a social commentary focusing on buildings, mapping and structures from around the world. I am very drawn to these man made structures and believe there are intrinsic elements to them.  My study of these structures are very much linked to their utilization of free energy. My discoveries on this topic have fueled my work and continue to do so.

I have also accumulated a stream of screenshots which prove my findings of the hidden and not so hidden aspects of this and I will be working on a book in the near future.  I have much to say on the topic of secret societies and how their roles in our society affect everything and everyone.

Everything is indeed linked together and in this we must be vigilant.

BUILDING SERIES

My series "BUILDINGS" emphasizes the temporary nature of our lives, our surroundings and lay question upon society as to where we have come from, where we are going and what we have done to create, destroy or leave legacy for our children. Much of history has been fomented and this idea is crucial to my work.  I question what is real, what is not, what about the mud-floods and the missing histories that we were never told about.

JMK Biography

Born August 3rd, 1969, in Johannesburg, South Africa, Janice Meyer Kirkpatrick immigrated to the Bay Area in 1981, at age 11, with her parents and younger brother. She brought with her vivid childhood memories of the tribal African art and the energetic pulse of Africa.

Janice graduated from San Mateo High School in 1987. In her senior year she was a winner in the Capitol Arts Program initiated by state senator Jackie Speier. She was elevated to academic advanced placement in art in her last two years of high school where she took part in various activities, including journalism and the creation of a school newspaper for children in advanced classes. She was also elected Publicity Commissioner for her senior class. She earned her AA [Associates of Arts] degree in 1990 from the Community College of San Mateo and her BFA degree in painting and sculpture from San Jose State University in 1993.

She has shown extensively on the San Francisco Peninsula.  Her most recent exhibition was a one-woman show at Pho69 in 2011, a popular restaurant on San Jose’s South First Street.  She has had other solo shows such as a show called -“Spirit Art”- at the ART Share Gallery in San Mateo in July of 2004.  She has been in many group shows around the SF Bay Area for the past 20 years, including the 1870 Art Center in Belmont, the United Unitarian Church on Geary and Franklin & various coffee houses in and around San Francisco. She has sold her works both privately and publicly now for over 20 years, to various art lovers and individuals who recognize her unique talent of seeing inter-dimensionally.

Her work combines the strong colors of African culture with her unique inner visions of universal symbolism. Her paintings and drawings often reflect dream imagery, with a lyrical and musical influence.  Her lines and forms depict a strong sense of intuitive knowing and a deeper understanding of the natural world.  It is obvious she is aware and she weaves her creativity between head and heart.

The meshing of Africa and America is evident as well, in that she combines the natural earthiness of the African continent with the flashy, fast paced energy of contemporary America.

She was exposed to art as a child through her parents’ influence, both as creative people and as art lovers, and saw that there are many ways to express her creativity.  She mostly focuses on painting and drawing, but she has also explored ceramics, bronze sculpture, hand-made paper, assemblage, collage, and found object art. She writes poetry, spiritual children’s books and science fiction.  She also resurrects discarded furniture by hand painting it and bringing it new life.

Janice enjoys working hands on and has been supporting herself as a picture framer, professional organizer and a healer as well as being a visionary artist.

HOME STUDIO

Collecting items for her works is one of the prime adventures of Janice's artwork and she loves to travel and accumulate items for the 3D paintings.  One of her pet peeves is the amount of waste humans create with packaging and product consumption, so she tends to re-utilize many of the everyday food product packaging that most people overlook and simply throw away or recycle.

This has become a real focus of her work and she has created a number of 3D paintings using packaging and other items such as unwanted toys or clothing accessories in her assemblages.
